AG Bell Selected as 2009-2010 Co-Chair of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Alliance The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Alliance (DHHA), a coalition of leading organizations working on behalf of individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing, has selected AG Bell as its consumer co-chair for the 2009-2010 term. AG Bell, represented by Director of Communications Catherine Murphy, will co-chair the DHHA along with the professional co-chair organization, National Court Reporters Association. The DHHA works on issues such as early newborn hearing screening, health care coverage for devices and services specific to hearing loss, and advocating for appropriate levels of federal funding for health, labor and education initiatives specific to the deaf and hard of hearing. Other members of the alliance include Hearing Loss Association of America, American Academy of Audiology, National Association of the Deaf, National Cued Speech Association, American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and American Society for Deaf Children.
| AG Bell to Present at 2009 Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Conference AG Bell will make two presentations at the 2009 annual conference for Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) March 9-10 in Addison, Texas. The EHDI conference is attended by individuals involved in early hearing detection and intervention, families of children with hearing loss and professionals responsible for providing families with information about deafness. A poster session on the Communication Outcomes Research Project will describe the methods used to gather research on listening and spoken language that is now available on AG Bell's Web site. In addition, the AG Bell Academy will make an oral presentation on its certification program for Listening and Spoken Language Specialists (LSLS). To learn more about LSLS, click here. | Save the Date! AG Bell 2009 Listening and Spoken Language Symposium AG Bell's 2009 Listening and Spoken Language Symposium will be held July 24-25, 2009, at the St. Louis Union Station Marriott, St. Louis, Mo. This year's Symposium is entitled "The Impact of Executive Function on Education and Developmental Outcomes." Executive Function is a critical aspect for children to "learn how to learn" and involves the global coordination, integration and funtional connectivity of multiple underlying brain systems used in speech perception, production and spoken language processing. Understanding Executive Function can help professionals identify where cognitive breakdowns occur, and may also help highlight a child or adult's areas of strength and talent.
Registration opens in mid-January and the fee for AG Bell members is $350, non-members $450. Pre-conference courses will also be offered for an additional fee of $135. Hotel room's will also be availabe in mid-January at the St. Louis Union Station Marriott for the nightly rate of $135 plus tax. For more information about the Symposium, click here.
